Memorial Day began after the end of the Civil War to honor soliders who had fought and fallen in battle. Now an offical holiday, the tradition continues. He said, "We forget how lucky we are to be in our country of America that we have the freedoms that we do; to serve God, to go to church, just to do what were doing today." "We can do a lot of things you cant do in other countries, " Freeman said. One veteran said he is proud to be honored and that Memorial Day means a great deal to him. Darrell T. Ellen Brothers, whose husband served in the military said, "Its a time to say thanks for the guys who did so much." As for Judy Moore, she says she is just thankful for men and women, like her father. She said to the soliders, "Thank you...thank you." -Candace Miers, NBC 10 News
