The campus of Southern Arkansas University is surrounded by American flags to pay homage to America's fallen heroes and those currently serving in the armed forces. The day was marked by a special tribute for the country's veterans.
"On our own campus we have a unit of the Arkansas Army National Guard since 1920 and in recent history; this unit has been deployed to Bosnia and twice to Iraq."
Air Force Technical Sergeant Jon Hardiman was one of the United States Servicemen that Southern Arkansas University recognized. After joining the Air Force at the age of 19, Hardiman is now serving as a recruiter for the Air Force and is honored to be recognized for his contributions.
"The south does a good job of telling us that we're doing a good job everyday, but any Veteran's Day is nice to come out and remember the ones who served before us."
Hardiman has served in Germany and has been an Air Force recruiter since 2004. Hardiman says he enjoys getting to interact with different types of people as a recruiter including students especially on Veteran's Day.
"I enjoy my job. It gets me out into different environments like this. Being in the south, everyone is so welcoming to the military."
And Southern Arkansas University's tribute to veterans wasn't complete without a red, white, and blue balloon sendoff to honor the fallen soldiers. Brea Douglas, NBC 10 News.
