Gregg Smith Named Southside Economic Development District Executive Director

Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council announced, today, Gregg Smith as the City of Monroe's first Executive Director of Southside Economic Development. The formal announcement was made at a press conference held this morning at the Monroe Public Safety Center.
Mayor Jamie Mayo comments, "Just as we did with our Downtown Economic Development District, I am proud to say we are appointing someone to serve as a liaison between the City of Monroe and the Southside Economic Development District. With a direct link to Monroe City Hall, we anticipate multiple successful projects."
While taking on these added responsibilities, Southside Economic Development Executive Director Gregg Smith will continue to serve in his role as Keep Monroe Beautiful Executive Director.
Gregg Smith, SEDD Executive Director adds, "With the support of Mayor Mayo and the Monroe City Council, in addition to other public-private partners we are seeing great things happen in downtown Monroe. Our goal will be to try to mirror that success by bringing residents, business & property owners, developers, and entrepreneurs to the table, and creating projects that will spur the synergy needed to accomplish true revitalization in South Monroe."

Work with Southside merchants and property owners.
Work with potential developers on various projects; and,
Organize beautification efforts to improve major business corridors
SEDD Board Chairman Otis Jones, says "This is an important day for our southside economic development efforts. The SEDD board looks forward to working with Mr. Smith. We have some hardworking board members who are excited for the opportunities this appointment will present. We appreciate Mayor Mayo for his support and anticipate great success as we update our efforts to launch multiple worthwhile projects."
