Former Richwood Mayor Ed Harris appeared in court Wednesday.
Harris was scheduled for a probation hearing in Ouachita parish court concerning his 20-10 conviction of malfeasance in office.
Current mayor Alvin Jackson hired Harris as an economic advisor for the city.
Now city officials have asked for an opinion from the Louisiana Board of Ethics on the matter.
Harris' attorney says his client is providing a vital service to the city and should be able to continue doing so.
"He's doing very needed duties. He's really over-qualified for the position and he's doing great work for the city of Richwood and we're hopeful and confident that the court when we do get to a hearing will see that" said attorney Charles Kincade.
Harris is due back in court January 25th.
