OUACHITA PARISH -- A Ouachita Parish Police Juror will reintroduce an ordinance on Monday that will
require some parish residents to have contracted trash pick-up.
Police Juror Pat Moore has revamped an ordinance she introduced back in November. It now only requires owners of residential rental units to have a garbage contract. Before all owners of residential and commercial properties were included. The new ordinance also changes the penalty for not having garbage collection, from jail time, to a 100-dollar fine, 40 hours of community service or both.
The previous ordinance was up for a final vote in December, but was not passed after residents at a public hearing voiced concerns.
Moore will introduce the ordinance March 4, 2013 and a final vote is set for March 18.
She hopes the ordinance will target the illegal dumping problem in the parish.

One Ouachita Parish Police Juror wants to require parish residents to have contracted trash pick-up.
District F Juror Pat Moore introduced ordinance number 9004 Monday at the regularly scheduled police jury meeting. Moore says more than 40-million dollars were spent state-wide last year for clean-up efforts because of dumping problems. The ordinance would require the owner of every occupied residence or commercial building to have a contractual agreement for periodic trash collection.
The ordinance will be discussed further at the December 3rd police jury meeting.
