WEST MONROE --The investigation into the crash that killed two people Saturday night on I-20 Westbound in West Monroe continues. The names of the victims have not been released.

Three other people were reported injured in the crash and rushed to the hospital.

One vehicle was on fire and upside down as fire crews arrived on the scene.

Police are confirming that one vehicle, containing only the driver, was heading eastbound on Interstate 20 near the Downing Pines bridge overpass. That driver then drove over the grassy median and toward the oncoming traffic of Interstate 20 westbound, hitting one vehicle with four people inside head-on.

Police confirm that the driver of the car that crossed over the median from I-20 eastbound died and one person in the other vehicle also died.

No word yet on why the car crossed over the median.

West Monroe Police, Louisiana State Police, West Monroe Fire Department and other EMS crews were on the scene.

I-20 opened around 11 p.m. Saturday night, over two hours later after the crash. Trucks with trailers, 18-wheelers and other vehicles who couldn't get off the interstate were stranded until the scene cleared.

NBC 10 News' Alanna Quillen was on scene shortly after the crash happened. Click on the video to see the scene from the crash.

We'll continue to keep you updated on this developing story as the information comes.
