A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the second phase of the Tower-Armand connector project in Monroe.
The $8 million project plans to widen the road and help ease congestion on U.S. Hwy 165 as well as make it easier to get to mid-town Monroe.
"It is only two lanes as we speak right now but now it's going to be five lanes. so your going to have a five lane flow from 165 all the way to mid town on north 18th street so that's going to be tremendous."
Construction is expected to start in early January and is expected to be complete in the spring of 2014.
