A group of teachers file a lawsuit against the Monroe City School District in 4th Judicial District Court Tuesday. Judge Daniel Ellender is the presiding judge.
Eddie Clark, Ross Downs and Daniel Street are representing the teachers in the lawsuit. Well over a hundred teachers have signed up for the suit and more are expected to join in soon. The suit claims the school district knowingly paid employees 13th checks who did not qualify for them. 13th checks are sales tax driven and were approved by voters decades ago.
"We feel that's a violation of the public trust and needs to be immediately remedied and restitution needs to be made to the effected certified teachers or other teachers," says Ross Downs.
The Monroe City School District has 15 days to respond to the lawsuit.
