Governor Mike Beebe will address the full legislature Tuesday.
"Today forward, history will be made by what we do, not who we are," Rep. Davy Carter (R) of Cabot said this afternoon at the State Capitol.
Carter's address of the Arkansas House ushers in his role as Speaker of the House for the 89th General Assembly.
Both the Arkansas House and the Arkansas Senate met briefly after swearing-in ceremonies for new members on the first day of a regular session of the legislature.
"Every time you push that button, you push that button for 30,000 Arkansans," Carter told his colleagues, before moving on to the first order of business.

Meanwhile, in the Arkansas Senate, Sen. Bryan King introduced one of the first bills of the session, SJR 1 would require voters to show a photo ID. The bill has been referred to the State Agencies Committee for action.
