At the LA High School Athletic Associations Convention in Baton Rouge this morning, a number of proposals were discussed and voted on; none bigger than the discussion surrounding the separation of 'select and non-select schools' (public vs. private).
Proposal 8 - separating all schools in ALL sports was tabled by a vote of 167 to 113. So, Prop 8 is dead for now.
Proposal 18 - separating all schools in JUST football was JUST PASSED. Football in Louisiana has changed. Public and private schools will be split once the playoffs begin.
Jesuit Principal Michael Giambelluca and Karr's John Hiser liken the split to segregation in the 1950's, adding students are better people in one association.
There was also an effort to table a vote on Prop 18, but it failed.
Kevin Foote on decision to not call a roll vote, "principals are gutless not to be accountable with roll call vote. Why hide agenda?".
