Update:

Monroe Police Chief Quentin Holmes says major crimes have decreased by 5% compared to 2011.

Major crimes, or Part One crimes, are designated by the FBI in it's Uniform Crime Report, as murder, rape, assault & battery, theft, auto theft, robbery, and burglary.

In 2011, Monroe Police investigated 8 murders. In 2012 that number was 6, representing a 25 percent drop.

Rape investigations were also down, 27 in 2011 and 20 in 2012.

Robberies were up 11 percent in 2012 from 2011. Assaults and batteries were also slightly up.

The Monroe Police Department crime report does not compare the crime rate in Monroe to that of other cities, but rather compares crime in Monroe during 2012 to crime during 2011.

Friday:

The Monroe Police department will be releasing the crime statistics for 2012 on Monday February 11, 2013 at 2pm.

The release will be held at the City Hall Annex-South (CHAS) located at 3901 Jackson St. Monroe La.

The public is invited to attend this release and discuss safety and crime within the City of Monroe.
