Louisiana State Treasurer John Kennedy traded his office for a classroom on Friday morning. Kennedy served as substitute teacher for a social studies class at West Ridge Middle School in West Monroe.

This is Kennedy's 9'Th year acting as a substitute teacher at schools across the state.

Kennedy says the school system is much different from previous years and the reason for his service is to help policy makers in Baton Rouge understand how the schools currently operate and the multiple roles teachers have been required to take on as educators.

Kennedy has been pushing, unsuccessfully, to pass a bill that would require state lawmakers to serve as substitute teachers.

Kennedy believes this will help those in power see what teachers and students are seeing on a daily basis.
