UNION PARISH -- An Arkansas man is killed after a single vehicle crash in Union Parish Sunday morning. State Troopers say the man was not wearing a seat belt.
On Sunday around 8:15 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 550 east of Louisiana Highway 15.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1995 Toyota Corolla, driven by 54-year-old Scott Holley of Strong, Arkansas, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 550 when it began to travel off the right side of the road, overcorrected and then ran off the left side of the road. The Toyota traveled into a ditch, overturned and struck several trees.
Holley was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the Toyota. Holley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner's Office.
Alcohol use is suspected. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seatbelts and/or impaired drivers. It is important to never get behind the wheel if you are impaired or get in a vehicle with a driver who is impaired. This decision can prevent injury or death to yourself and others. State Law requires seatbelts to be used at every seating position in the vehicle. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times and to never drive impaired.
Troop F has investigated 7 fatal crashes which have resulted in 9 deaths so far this year.
