BATON ROUGE - State Representative John Schroder, R-Covington, who chairs the Select Committee on Homeland Security, wants to hear directly from educators and parents about school safety.

Rep. Schroder, who's committee held a hearing last month to learn about the status of the safety of schools in Louisiana, said he now wants to and hear from educators and parents on what they want. "Those are the voices being left out of the conversation," he said.  "I'm asking parents, educators and administrators from across the state to contact my office directly with their concerns and suggestions. We need to hear from them."

Typically, legislators seek input through public committee hearings, but Schroder said, "I understand that many people cannot make a committee hearing during the middle of the day, so I want to do all I can to hear from our citizens; their ideas are important. The safety of our children requires us to take every step we can to learn more."

Rep. Schroder has set up a special email address for comments and is encouraging the entire education community to take this important opportunity to present their thoughts and concerns regarding all aspects of school safety.  Individuals can send their succinct comments toschoolsafetycomments@legis.la.gov.
