Federal Government Grants Portion of Louisiana's Request for Assistance Following January Severe Rain, Flooding

BATON ROUGE - The President has granted a portion of Louisiana's request for federal assistance following severe weather in January approving FEMA Public Assistance funding for emergency work and rebuilding in 11 Louisiana parishes.
Last week, Governor Jindal requested a major disaster declaration, which includes assistance under the Public Assistance, Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation grant programs, as a result of widespread damage caused by a string of severe storms and flooding in January. The impact of January's storms has escalated to a point that meets the requirements of the Stafford Act for a major disaster declaration, with preliminary damage assessments for the affected parishes and state agencies exceeding $6.5 million.
Eleven parishes are now eligible for FEMA Public Assistance grants for emergency work and public infrastructure repair under the Public Assistance Grant Program. They are Acadia, Catahoula, Concordia, East Carroll, Evangeline, Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Livingston, Madison, St. Landry and Vermilion.
The Governor had requested Public Assistance aid for Rapides parish as well, but this was not granted by the federal government.

These 10 parishes are Acadia, Concordia, Evangeline, Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Livingston, Madison, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion.
