Union Parish narcotics agents have arrested a Junction City man for operation of a clandestine methamphetamine lab.

Matthew D. Maxey, 37, of 309 South Pine St., was arrested Thursday after agents with the sheriff's Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs found "numerous components used in the production of meth" inside a shed near the residence.

Maxey also was booked for possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Union Parish Detention Center on a total bond of $11,500.

An affidavit states that agents received a tip that there was drug activity at the residence. It also stated Maxey admitted to using the "shake-n-bake" method of producing meth and that it was only for his personal use.

In other Thursday action, sheriff's investigators arrested two detention center inmates on a charge of fire-raising in a correctional facility.

Dustin Allen Rose, 21, and Jon Walter McCann, 30, were arrested at the correctional center in connection with a vent fire that occurred in a disciplinary cell Feb. 14.

An affidavit states the men used the two electrical wires from a light fixture to ignite rolled up paper to light up a cigarette that they shared.

The rolled up paper was stuffed into an exhaust vent that guards noticed. The paper was quickly extinguished.
