State Senator Rick Gallot and Rapides Parish Sheriff William Hilton will push for an addition to the current crime and punishment act for Louisiana prisoners.
Gallot has proposed churches and cemeteries be added into a law that allows inmates to perform manual labor on property of non profit organizations.
Under current law parish sheriffs are authorized to have inmates convicted of a misdemeanor offense perform labor on public roads, buildings, and streets.
Gallot says these additions to the law would serve the state while maintaining funds for public service.
