LA Tech Competes to Break Super-Mileage Record Using Green Technology

By: LA Tech
Updated: February 26, 2013

Imagine a vehicle that can achieve more than 2,500 miles per gallon - the distance from New York to Los Angeles - on one gallon of gasoline. Sounds impossible, right? Well, not exactly!

Teams across the country (and right here in Ruston) are hard at work building their futuristic, super mileage vehicles to compete in Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2013.

Shell Eco-marathon is a global program that challenges high school and college student teams to design, build and test the most energy-efficient vehicles. With annual events in the Americas, Europe and Asia, this innovation competition pushes future scientists and engineers to travel the farthest distance using the least amount of energy.

Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2013 will take place April 5-7, 2013 on the streets of downtown Houston, Texas. Pedestrians at Discovery Green will be replaced by cars of the future, as the teams take to the streets to test their vehicles.
