The City of Monroe says they have three candidates for an additional Animal Welfare Officer.
The new officer is expected to be hired within 30 days.
This officer will work in the field addressing strays and educating the people, even helping them lay traps to capture dogs for pickup later.
They will work with the Animal Welfare Officer currently staffed at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter in West Monroe, where all strays will be taken.
Whether or not a second field officer is needed will be addressed in the next fiscal year.
