El Dorado. Population, about 21,000 people. It’s not a big town but this weekend— big things are happening and lots of them.
Yancey Kyle lives in El Dorado, he said, “Our football team here is one of the best in the state, a real active church has a great thing going on this weekend so it’s a great time to be here.”
Start off with the 22nd annual Musicfest happening in downtown, the two day festival promises to draw crowds of nearly 20,000 people.
Kyle said, “It’s always a lot of fun, everyone who grows up here always looks forward to Musicfest. We’ve got some fantastic acts coming this year, Blues Traveler, Jack Ingram, Joe Nicols, Trout Fishing in America, I mean you can’t ask for a better line up.”
What if your one of those wildcat fanatics— we’ll there something for you too. The cats kick off at Friday evening against the Texarkana Razorbacks right here at Memorial Stadium.
And right across the road at the auditorium, the south Arkansas Awakening is holding a week long revival, wrapping up Friday night.
So now you may be asking yourself, how am I going to get close to where I want to go, much less park?
El Dorado Police Chief Ricky Roberts said, “We’re going to do things a little differently around the stadium and auditorium since we’re anticipating a lot of people, we’re going to shut 5th street off – basically shut off 5th street and park there.”
And if that’s not enough people piling in town— take a ride out to the fairgrounds for the fourth annual Soulfest. The R & B festival turns up the music Saturday evening.
Chief Roberts said, “A lot of police presence, we ask you have patience with us. It’s gonna be a lot of traffic jams. But we have officers at intersections to direct traffic. Pay attention to officers, people crossing the road. Safety is our number one goal.”
