By the time firefighters showed up to 2005 Crawford street, it was too late.
A fire that started in the front of the house had destroyed most of the inside.
West Monroe Fire Chief Bobby Buchanan said, "Right now we have a significant fire on the inside of the home, probably a quarter of the home has been burnt."
Owners say there was no gas and power because no one lived inside the house ... or so they thought. Fire crews are searching the inside of this house, they say there are clues someone is living here. Finding that mystery man could lead them to the cause of the fire. They pulled out pieces of a burned mattress and other charred items that may belong to the person staying here. A neighbor who asked not to be identified says she has seen a man coming and going from the house.
Augusta Johnson said, "He comes on a bike and whether he staying there, I really don't know."
A pastor showed up and told investigators he knew the name of the occupant because he had permission to let the man stay there. But the owners I talked to say that's news to them. Either way, investigators are trying to find out if he had anything to do with the fire.
Chief Bobby Buchanan said "Now if somebody is living there, and they're having to provide themselves with some electricity possibly a generator, we don't know until we interview someone. "
