A Monroe man is found dead in a burned house late Thursday night. Now, police say he was strangled to death. the mans was so badly burned...he still hasnt been ID... But a preliminary autopsy has revealed, that what happened late Thursday night.. was murder... the memory of Thursday night is still etched in the mind of Roy Carter: "Me and a friend went over and we kicked the door in, well there was too much fire and we tried the back, but there was nothing we could do". Too late to save his nephews life...a nephew that lived only a few doors away. Much remains the same...four days after police and firefighters arrived at the house fully engulfed Thursday night. Days later, this mystery has begun to unravel. A preliminary autopsy has revealed the victim was strangled to death, before the fire was set. Police say theyre 99 percent sure the body is that of Carters nephew Charles Perkins. But he will not be positively ID until the autopsy comes back later this week. "He was an alright kat, he aint bothered nobody, hes go out and hustle and stuff like that," says Carter. For Carter...he just hopes the killer is found... so he can get some peace...and leave behind the memory of Thursday night: "Thats a terrible feeling somebody getting burnt up and cant do nothing about it, its really rough". police say Perkins brother has come all the way from Dallas to provide DNA. And they plan to do a comparative analysis...in hopes of identifying the body.
