Important because thats where Monroe’s drinking water comes from. A restoration commission has secured 2.6 million dollars in state and federal funds to build a water-level control structure which would allow the level of the upper segment of the bayou to be lowered. Officials are hoping to get the project going this year. The bayou winds for 30 miles from Monroe to Sterlington.
