These days we are used to hearing about school shootings on all too frequent basis. Its no wonder, when a student brought a gun to a school in Camden, officials took it very seriously. Jerry Guess, the Superintindent of Camden Fairview Schools says, "Were always concerned about safety. We stress that. We stress it with our administrators, our teachers, we even tell our student body that we are concerned about safety and we want our children to participate and also be concerned." Officials say a sixteen year old student at Bridge Academy, an alternative school, brought the gun with him on Friday. Another student spotted the gun and alerted school officials. They contacted police who were able to stop, quite possibly a very tragic event from unfolding. Police retrieved a .25 semi-automatic handgun and a bag of what they believe is marijuana from the teenager without any further incident. Members of the community are grateful it ended there. The student is in jail on a $15,000.00 bond. He is charged with possession of a handgun on school property and possession of marijuana. Officials plan to charge him as an adult.
