Frigid weather and snowflakes leads to a three-day weekend for many folks in Louisiana and Arkansas. City workers and school officials made preparations early to keep everyone safe.
Everyone in the Ark-La Miss area was watching the skies Friday afternoon to see what kind of blow Mother Nature would deliver. Preparations began early to make sure no one was caught in whatever came our way.
Local schools started calling as early as 10:00 am to announce they would be letting out early. Most of the schools in the area were out by 1:30.
Local Public Works departments monitored the roads all day. They started getting salt and sand ready at about noon to prepare for bad road conditions. West Monroes Public Works department, which is responsible for three bridges in the city, pulled out their bags of salt just in case.
Ed Dayton, the West Monroe Public Works Director says, “we watch the weather and if it starts to accumulate, then we get our trucks and load them with salt and salt down bridges that come under our responsibility."
Dayton wasnt expecting the weather to get bad enough for his crews to have to go out and salt the road, but they will continue to check bridges and overpasses for signs of snow building up.
