Man With Firearm Arrested In ULM's Library

As ULM students prepared for this step show, few knew what was going on right behind them on the second floor of the library. University police say shortly before five p.m., a man identified as not a student walked through these doors with a student. Police say he was wearing a tactical vest and had what looked like a gun, strapped to his hip. A move that puzzles authorities: "You cant say whats on someones mind, I think its kind of dumb from my standpoint for someone to do that, given the things going on today at universities and the university level," says ULM Police Chief Larry Ellerman. University staff noticed the gun in this room full of students....the gun turned out to be a bb pistol. As soon as it was flashed, Barbara Michalides, who works at the university, made the call to university police: "What flashed through my head was the students that we have here in this lab and their safety and my first thought was to stay calm". University workers stayed calm and pretended like nothing was happening so police could safely arrest the man with the firearm. Its a situation diverted...that worries some students: "Its very scary situation they need to put more security there maybe instead of book alarms they need to make it a metal detector or something".
