ULMs emergency notification system was launched last week. Its a warning system that texts students and faculty in a crisis situation. Some students say a potential gunman is a crisis, and they want to know why they werent notified. For a few minutes Tuesday...Police say students and faculty at ULM believed a gunman was in their presence at this highly populated tutoring center in the heart of ULMs library. Even though the gun turned out to be a bb pistol, some students say they wish they had been notified. Especially since the university has dolled out big bucks for a new emergency alert system: "If theyre gonna have it, they should definitely use it just to warn the students to be prepared, even if they already caught him there could be someone else, have a friend with him," said one student. But university officials say the text message was unnecessary. Police say if they put out too many, students wont take them seriously. University police say the whole incident was over and done with, in a matter of minutes. So they consider yesterdays response, a success.
