42 year old Ronald Covington was working a minor crash with state police last night around 10:30 on Highway 34 near Graphic Packaging in West Monroe. Police Reports say he was struck and killed by a log truck. Officers were directing traffic around the minor accident scene when log truck driver--66 year old Julius Greely, failed to stop. He struck Covington and continued driving. State Police say Greely knew he was leaving the scene of an accident. Trooper Mark Dennis of Louisiana State Police Troop F said, "We dont believe that theres anyway that he would not have known that we were out there with all of our lights and everything and our operation and with the wrecker driver basically in the middle of the road sweeping debris off". State Police tracked Greely to his Monroe home where he was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center, charged with hit and run, failure to obey a police officers signals, and negligent homicide.
