3 Unit Gang

Parkview apartments, Trichel, and Robinson place. This is the alleged "3 Unit Gangs" turf. On Friday Monroe Police issued a warning to officers to be extra vigilant when on patrol in south Monroe after they received information that 3 Unit Gang members were looking to retaliate for recent arrests. Despite that official police warning, residents we met say the gang doesnt even exist. A Parkview Resident, Corey Collins said, "There aint no gangs around here. There is trouble everywhere, all over the city but there aint no gangs back here." Yet the child behind Collins seems to be displaying a gang sign. Gwendolyn Jackson keeps an ear out for whats happening in her neighborhood. She said, "I know all these kids out here. I listen to everything they say...I aint never heard them say there was a gang." That may be true but Jamarius Harris and Taqiyy Paster, both in jail for attempted murder, told police they were members of the 3 Unit Gang. Residents, however, say Harris and Paster just made it up. Deon Merles, a Trichel resident, said, "Its just a group of teenagers running around here, trying to make a name for themselves, but its not a gang around here." Jackson said, "If there was a gang there would have been some more killing out here, dont you think?" Residents of all three neighborhoods said they agree: A few bad apples, doesnt spoil the bunch. Jackson said, "Everybody that [lives] out here is not bad."
