West Monroe Drug Sweep

By: Import User
Updated: July 15, 2008
After a growing number of West Monroe neighbors complain about drugs being dealt on their neighborhood streets. Cops make a major drug sweep through the city. That sweep leading to the arrest of eight alleged cocaine dealers - only separated by a few blocks. But police and neighbors say - those arrests are only a drop in the large bucket that has become a culture of drug use on west monroe city streets. Police say they hope these arrests send a strong message to drug dealers... but they also know, that for every drug dealer they arrest, theres one right around the corner to replace them. After spending the past eight years in Arkansas, this week Billy Oglesby moved his family back, to West Monroe. But this would not be a good homecoming, after NBC 10 news informed him that police just arrested two alleged coke dealers within five blocks of his new home. West Monroe police arrested eight dealers in all, after metro narcotics agents spent weeks doing undercover deals. All in a city that police say has a relatively low crime rate.
