Gas is once again reaching an all time high -- Triple A is reporting the average price of gas is $4.11. And thats painful news for most Americans... but for some rural towns in the Arklamiss -- its a disaster. Gas prices are crippling small, rural towns like Eros. Where some residents are forgoing trips to the doctor -- because its just too expensive to drive there. Imagine having to drive 60 miles -- just to get a gallon of milk. Well thats the reality for thousands of people who live in small, rural towns. And economists say these towns are already struggling and in a few years -- they could be gone. In the small, scenic town of Eros residents say gas prices arent hitting them hard, but killing them. In a town, where theres only a hundred registered voters, folks like Opal Whitman and her husband say living the rural life is now a luxury. To get groceries its a 50 mile trip. To go to the doctor -- its 60 miles. Economists say in years to come -- rising gas prices will be the reason small rural towns, like Eros, could disappear off the map.
