Keiauna Canada has lived in Ruston six years. She says she loves being able to go anywhere in town in five minutes...that was until road construction started a few months ago. She said, "I have no air in my car so its hot and it takes me 10 minutes to get to work now where it took me 3 or 2 minutes."
Canada says the business where she works is suffering as well. She said, "Its just a complete downfall with customers." She works at the Beehive of Ruston along the North Service Road that has been under construction for months now. "Weve done good but you could tell the construction played a big part on our business," Canada said.
Other businesses feeling the hit of orange and black signs...Joseph Henderson, a manager of Raising Canes said "The construction has slowed down business." Other businesses say it hasnt effected them at all, and they even like the construction because they feel it is a small price to pay for new Ruston roads.
John Wesley Waldon, a Ruston taxi driver said, "Its all right, I like it...
Its kind of difficult right now while theyre working on it after they get through with it everything will be all right."
On Highway 33-more construction-the work that began two months ago is supposed to last another year and a half, according to James Construction Group. A Ruston driver, Scottie Chandler said, "It aint worth it. I mean, they couldve did one thing at a time they couldve done the service road then the exit or the exit then the road, they didnt have to do it all at one time. "
Officials say the process of construction may be bumpy but the end result is well worth it.
