Local Agencies Host National Prescription Take Back Day

MONROE -- Anyone who has accumulated unwanted and unused prescription drugs will be to safely dispose of them in a national initiative to fight drug abuse.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day for Saturday, September 29, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The last take-back day was on April 28, in which people across the nation turned in a record-breaking 552, 161 pounds, or 26 tons, of unwanted or expired medications for safe disposal. There were over 5,600 sites in all 50 states that participated in the April event, and so far, over 4,200 are expected for Saturday's event.
