UPDATE: Elderly Woman Dies in Monroe Fire

UPDATE 10/6: St. Francis Medical Center confirms to NBC 10 that the elderly woman, Frances Mitchell, has died. She died from her wounds just after 11 p.m. Friday night.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

MONROE -- A fire at a home in Monroe injured an elderly woman Friday night.
Firefighters got the call, from a passerby who saw smoke, to Old Forsythe Avenue near Timberlane around 6:30p.m. Officials say the owner of the home, an elderly woman, suffered burns to her face and hands.
She's at Saint Francis Hospital in critical condition. Neighbors say the woman lives alone, and her nearest relatives are in Lafayette.
No word yet on a cause of the fire.
