A West Monroe man fell to his death while deer hunting in Union Parish late Wednesday afternoon.
Otis E. Davis Jr., 69, was getting down off his ladder stand about dark when the top strap broke, causing him to fall 20 feet.
Davis was hunting on the Buckshot Hunting Club near Haile in the eastern part of the parish.
Union Parish sheriff's investigators said Davis was able to make a cell phone call to a hunting partner, but succumbed to internal injuries where he fell.
Investigators said Davis, who was bow hunting, had followed all safety precautions but the ladder stand malfunctioned and apparently caused the fall.
A coroner's office employee pronounced Davis dead at the scene.
