The budget surplus for the City of Monroe is growing.
Mayor Jamie Mayo made that announcement today at a state of local government luncheon at the Monroe Civic Center.
Mayor Mayo says once it's been finalized, it's expected the budget surplus to be over $14 million.
Meanwhile outgoing Monroe City Council Chairman Jay Marx received a standing ovation for his service to the city.
Marx says once he's done with public service, it's his colleagues that he'll miss most of all.
Phase three work at the new terminal at Monroe Regional Airport will be done soon as well as upgrades to the baggage claim.
The city is still awaiting word if they'll be awarded a grant that will help fund a new pumping station in south Monroe.
