MONROE -- Just days before Veteran's Day, ULM went ahead and celebrated their own veterans young and old on Wednesday morning.
MONROE -- The Veteran's Appreciation Ceremony honored dozens of veterans who are alumni, current students or employees of ULM.
President Dr. Nick Bruno, General Joanne Sheridan of the Louisiana Army National Guard, and Wayne Brumfield of Student Affairs led the ceremony in Scott Plaza at the ULM Library -- where dozens gathered to pay tribute.
"You know, Veteran's Day is important to military, but it's also important to america and recognizing the freedoms that we have here," Sheridan said.
Sheridan is a sociology graduate of ULM and is the first ever female brigadier general for the Louisiana National guard.
She and president Bruno gave special pins commemorating each veteran for their service.
"And with ULM honoring the veterans, it means a lot to me and I'm sure it does to all the guys and gals sitting here and received the tribute today," said ULM Police Chief, Larry Ellerman.
