In Concordia Parish, the Town of Clayton Mayor may have violated state law when he used nearly 34-hundred dollars in town funds to pay for gas in his personal vehicle.
According to an audit done by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, Mayor Rydell Turner bought 1049 gallons of fuel for his personal vehicle between June 2010 and February 2012.
Turner says the fuel was paid for with town funds, because he used his personal vehicle for town business.
Turner also said the Board of Aldermen approved the use of his vehicle for town business, but a review of the minutes of town meetings did not find where approval was given to Turner to buy fuel.
The auditor is recommending the Town of Clayton seek legal advice on what steps need to be taken that includes recovering money for the fuel costs.
