One local city is helping to ensure families in need have a happy Thanksgiving with a turkey giveaway.

The City of Monroe along with nearly 10 area businesses donated 200 turkeys to the city's annual Turkey Giveaway. This is the ninth time the city has hosted the giveaway.

Police officers and firefighters passed out the turkeys to several organizations. Groups like the Salvation Army and Ray of Sunshine are just a few organizations receiving turkeys to give out to those in need. Organizers say they are glad to help but always wish they could do more.

"We wish we could accommodate everybody but we can't. We just do all we can to serve as many as we can," says Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo.

Since the event started nine years ago they have given away over 2000 turkeys.
