According to Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's office, the Town of Rayville may by ordinance repeal an ordinance passed in 1974 prohibiting the sale of liquor on Sundays. And that action would not need to be up for a vote by the citizens of Rayville.
Currently Richland Parish also prohibits liquor sales on Sunday, but according to the A.G.'s opinion to the Rayville City Attorney, the city has the authority to regulate such laws with the municipal limits and the parish does not.
City Councilwoman Debra James says allowing Sunday liquor sales in the city is something the entire council wants to move forward with soon. City Attorney William Coenen says the council will discuss it further during the December 10, 2012 meeting.
