Gov. Beebe Discusses Meeting with President Obama

Update: Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe held a news conference in Little Rock to talk about his trip to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama to discuss how state's would be impacted if a deal is not reached to avert the looming fiscal cliff.
Beebe says it wouldn't be fair is states were asked to carry much of the burden if a deal is not reached in Washington. Beebe and five other governors, three Democrats and three Republicans, met with President Obama for about 90 minutes.
Beebe says it would be wrong if the government cuts funding for programs while not relieving states of the responsibility for funding the programs.
Tuesday:
Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe was part of a delegation of Governors that met with President Obama today at the White House to discuss the impending fiscal cliff.
The bipartisan group, three Republicans and three Democrats, urged the White House and Congress to work out a deal to avoid automatic tax hikes and spending cuts set to kick-in in January.
The other governors at the roundtable included:
Republicans Gary Herbert of Utah, Mark Fallin of Oklahoma and Scott Walker of Wisconsin.
and Democrats Jack Markell of Delaware, and Mark Dayton of Minnesota.
President Obama wants to hold down tax rates for the lower and middle class and raise them for the wealthiest two percent of Americans.
Republicans object to any tax hike.
Without a deal, 90 percent of Americans' taxes are set to go up, beginning January first.
