Food drop off is complete for the Christmas Cheer Food Drive at the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. This year organizers are once again calling it a success.
Thursday, schools all over Ouachita Parish dropped off truck loads of food. The schools with most pounds-per-student of food will win big cash prizes. Sponsors include Brookshires, Super-1 Foods, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, KTVE, KARD, and Taco Bell. Officials with the food bank say all of the food collected will go toward feeding 74 charitable agencies in the area. It will also go toward the food bank's "Adopt a Senior Program."
Stacey Guidry of the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank explains, "We have 1435 seniors that get a monthly box of food from us. These are seniors that live on a fixed income, and the average is 718 dollars a month for most of our folks."
KTVE-KARD personalities broadcasted live during the day keeping everyone informed of the growing pounds of food that has been collected. This is the 12th year for the food drive, and organizers have set a goal of 85 thousand pounds of food.
Winners for the food drive will be announced on Friday at 5pm on KTVE. You can donate to the food bank year round.
