Locals Hold Candlelight Service for Lost Loved Ones and CT Shooting Victims

MONROE -- Some locals are remembering their loved ones, and the lives of those lost in the school shooting tragedy this week.
The Millers Funeral Home in Monroe organized their annual candlelight service of remembrance on Saturday night.
Visitors from all across town came to pay respects and light a candle for their loved one.
"This gives us an opportunity to give back to them, to bring people together as they gathered here tonight," said Rick Miller with the Millers Funeral Home. "It was a support system."
The service also included a special bell ringing for each life lost in the school shooting.
"It's such a tragedy," Miller said. "When we see something happen like that, we feel as though it's something we have to recognize. People know, not only have they lost someone, but it happens all over the country."
Vickie Williams, a principal at Lincoln Elementary school, came to remember her loved one, as well as giving her condolences to the teachers and students lost.
"I'm a principal at a school and there, we have 454 students. And I thought about the students that were lost in Connecticut, the people who lost their lives," said Williams. "So in memory of them and my loved ones, I came out to celebrate their life."
After the bell ringing, each person took a candle to light as the names of their loved ones were called out.
"People go through several stages of grief," said Miller. "Having this event, it's a community event in bringing them together. It helps, it really does."
