A Judge in Baton Rouge has upheld much of Gov. Jindal's education reform law that was facing a legal challenge.
Judge Michael Caldwell upheld three sections of Act 1, which changed how teachers are hired, fired, and evaluated.
Judge Caldwell did rule Section 1 of the act, which affects superintendent hiring, was unconstitutional.
The Louisiana Federation of Teachers originally filed suit against the act.
Governor Bobby Jindal issued a statement today on State District Judge Mike Caldwell's ruling on Act 1 that deals with teacher quality:
"We appreciate the judge's ruling. Today's ruling is a victory for students and teachers. This ruling upholds the core purpose of the law - rewarding effective teachers and supporting ineffective teachers who want to improve."
