Ouachita Parish School Board Votes on Redistricting

OUACHITA PARISH -- In a 4-3 vote, school board members favored the plan that will allow the parish to keep its 60 percentage eastern and 40 percentage western representation rate.

Effective January 2015, these changes are designed to eliminate the possibilities of discrimination against the African American population in the parish.

Board members say they feel that this plan will cause less confusion for the parish as they prepare for the future.

Board members continue to remind residents that the focus point of the changes are not to express political views but to protect the future of children.

The plan will not affect the current school zoning of Ouachita Parish.
