MONROE -- Ouachita Parish folks gathered Saturday to celebrate the meaning of family, community, and culture.
The Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum hosted their annual Kwanzaa celebration this afternoon.
The event began with a traditional drum call. Students from the local community were also given lessons on African artwork as they enjoyed the lyrics of noted African folklorist Ser Seshs Ab Heteer-Boxley of Natchez.
Following today's celebration, folks can look forward to more events surrounding the Kwanzaa holiday over the next two days.
Since its 1994 establishment, the museum has aimed to enhance the cultural awareness and heritage of African Americans.
