Son Arrested After Argument Over Chores

An argument between a mother and son about not doing his chores ended with Union Parish deputies arresting the son for aggravated assault with a knife and domestic abuse battery.
Matthew Cade Martinez, 20, of 2531 Hwy. 549, Lot 2, Marion, was booked Wednesday into the Union Parish Detention Center where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.
The man's mother told deputies that she grabbed a belt and told Martinez he was not too old for a whipping. She stated her son grabbed and pushed her against a door with his hands around her throat. The mother stated that she got her hands around her son's throat and he turned loose, but he then picked up a knife and start slamming his hand on a kitchen counter in a violent manner.
Deputies reported that the wife's boyfriend came in from outside during the argument and told Martinez to put the knife down and he did.
