The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors announced the selection of Dr. Barbara M. Hanson as Chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College. The announcement was made this morning during a Special Meeting of the Board.
"My colleagues and I were very impressed with all of the finalists. However, it was Dr. Hanson's unique and diverse background combined with her 25 plus years of leadership in higher education that led us to believe she is the right person at the right time for LDCC. Having worked her entire professional career in community colleges in nearly every capacity will be critical to the future success of LDCC as it continues to work through the recent merger," said Michael Murphy, LCTCS Board Chair.
Hanson is currently the Vice President for Learning at San Jacinto College-Central Campus in Pasadena, Texas, and will assume responsibilities as LDCC Chancellor on Monday, January 28.
"It is an honor and a privilege to join the students, faculty, and staff at Louisiana Delta Community College. I have thought about several opportunities over the course of my career. However, I cannot remember a time that I felt more at home than when I visited this college and met with the faculty, staff, and students as well as a number of community members," said Hanson. "I am looking forward to becoming part of this college, this community, and working with the exemplary group of professionals in Louisiana's Community and Technical Colleges."
Hanson beat out two other candidates for the position, Dr. Rodney Ellis, and Delta's interim Chancellor Dr. Jerry Ryan. Ryan was named acting Chancellor in June of last year.
