DELHI -- The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is awarding a $1.8 million grant from the state's Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund Program.

Delhi Mayor J. Lynn Lewis says he's excited about the grant and the opportunity he says will bring Delhi's water system into the 21st century.

Mayor Lewis says one advantage the new system will bring is that it will give Delhi residents a more accurate rate of their water usage.

A radio read system will be used to send data directly back to city hall.

Mayor Lewis also says the system will improve service while saving taxpayers thousands of dollars.

Mayor Lewis says the starting date for the construction has been set for February 1st and he hopes for the project to be completed by the end of the summer.
