Hearing Date Set for Louisiana Board of Ethics v. Royce Toney

Updated: January 9, 2013
Former Ouachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney will be stepping back into court this year.
A hearing is set for March 4, 2013 in Monroe's Fourth Judicial District Court. The hearing concerns the charges filed by the Louisiana Board of Ethics in November. The board is accusing Toney of 'knowingly and willfully' failing to accurately report a 30-thousand dollar expenditure to his campaign manager Kim Leija in February of 2010. The stated purpose of the amount was 'campaign manager salary,' but the board says Toney intended to keep 15-thousand for personal use. Failing to accurately report such uses is a violation of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.
Toney is currently under house arrest for misdemeanor charges he plead guilty to in August of 2012.
